The Virtue and Values Education Center takes part in a training session focused on educating emotions through the lens of virtue
On November 15, a hundred Religion teachers from the Region of Murcia gathered at the El Batel Auditorium to attend the session “From Emotion to Virtue: Educating for Authentic Happiness,” delivered by Ricardo Ramírez Majadas, counselor at GOE and representative of the Virtue and Values Education Center at Francisco de Vitoria University.
The event was part of a training day on Emotional Intelligence organized by the Education Delegation of the Diocese of Cartagena.
Throughout the session, Ricardo Ramírez emphasized the importance of “understanding Emotional Intelligence from a holistic perspective, in which the person is viewed as a unity of intellect, will, and affectivity.”
He explained that “placing Emotional Intelligence within the framework of the virtues helps avoid emotivist or voluntarist reductions and provides teachers with more solid tools to support the personal growth of their students.”
During the lecture, attendees explored fundamental concepts such as temperament, character, and virtue, as well as the key virtues that sustain true affective maturity.
Ramírez Majadas highlighted that “the authentic integration of the person requires a formative process that goes beyond the mere management of emotions and leads to the construction of a solid character oriented toward the good.”
To conclude, the speaker offered teachers practical tools for the classroom, illustrating how the Religion curriculum can become a privileged space for forging character and educating the conscience in a deep, critical, and well-balanced way.
