Educating for Moral Flourishing
Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Virtue Ethics, Moral
Psychology, Justice, Sociology, and Theology

March 12–13, 2026

How can education foster the conditions for human beings not only to live morally but to flourish? What does it mean to cultivate moral character in a time of social fragmentation, moral uncertainty, and deep psychological vulnerability? This call invites contributions that explore the concept of moral flourishing— understood as a state of ethical maturity and human wholeness—through the lenses of virtue ethics, moral psychology, justice, sociology, and theology.

We welcome interdisciplinary work that considers the theoretical foundations, practical applications, and lived experiences of moral education across cultures, contexts, and traditions. Contributions may engage with classical and contemporary accounts of virtue, the psychology of moral development, the role of empathy and hum

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • The philosophical grounding of moral flourishing in virtue ethics
  • Psychological insights into character development and moral motivation
  • Restorative justice practices and their role in healing moral harm
  • The sociological dimensions of moral education and community formation
  • Theological understandings of grace, forgiveness, and moral transformation
  • Pedagogical approaches to cultivating moral imagination, empathy, and responsibility
  • Cross-cultural or comparative accounts of moral flourishing
