Sweden and Spain Unite for Character Education
What if the real educational revolution was about teaching how to be, not just what to know?
That is precisely the aim of character education. This vision inspires the work of the Centre for Education in Virtues and Values (CEV) at Francisco de Vitoria University, which from the 12th to the 14th of May hosted 19 senior leaders, headteachers and teachers from the Scandinavian network AcadeMedia for an intensive course on Foundations of Character Education for Educators.
AcadeMedia, with over 700 schools across Scandinavia, chose UFV as a place to deepen their understanding of character education. Participants gained practical strategies for teaching character, explored approaches to transforming school culture, and visited Stella Maris La Gavia School, where they exchanged experiences with its leadership and teaching staff.
The experience offered a unique opportunity for international dialogue, mutual enrichment and the opening of new paths for future collaboration.
Some of the questions that emerged during the course were: Are we shaping CVs or shaping hearts? Are we educating for success or for a good life? What matters more—talent or virtue? Can a school transform the heart of a society?
What are your thoughts on the matter?
