How much does a criminologist earn in Madrid?

According to market sources, a criminologist in Spain can expect an average salary of approximately €29,850 gross per year.

What is criminology, and what does a criminologist actually do?

Criminology studies crime, its causes, victims, and ways to prevent it. A criminologist analyzes crime and contributes to its prevention, investigation, and analysis. In our bachelor’s degree program, you will study law, psychology, sociology, victimology, criminalistics, and investigative techniques.

What grade do I need to study Criminology at UFV?

We do not set a fixed cutoff score. In our admissions process, we evaluate each candidate’s academic record along with their profile through a skills assessment, an English test, and a personal interview. In addition, you must meet the legal requirements for university admission. Space is limited, so we recommend that you begin the process well in advance.

What courses are offered in the criminology degree program?

In our program, you will study law, psychology, sociology, criminal investigation, and crime prevention. Course offerings include Criminalistics, Criminal Law, Victimology, Forensic Science, Penitentiary Law, Criminal Psychopathology, Legal and Forensic Medicine, and Research Methodology.

What is the difference between criminology and criminalistics?

Criminology studies the causes of crime, its effects, and its prevention. Forensic Science focuses on locating, analyzing, and interpreting evidence of a criminal act, such as fingerprints or physical evidence. In our bachelor’s degree program, we address both perspectives through courses such as Forensic Science, Forensic Investigation, and Forensic Investigation Techniques.

What is the difference between Criminology and Forensic Psychology?

Criminology analyzes crime, its causes, prevention, and victims. Forensic psychology applies psychological knowledge to the legal field—for example, to evaluate individuals involved in a case and prepare reports for the courts. In our bachelor’s program, you will study criminal psychology and psychopathology, but the degree does not qualify you to practice as a psychologist.

Do criminologists work at crime scenes?

You can work in that field, but studying criminology does not automatically qualify you for a position in the Forensic Police. Admission depends on the requirements and procedures established for each position and agency. In our bachelor’s program, you’ll learn to analyze crime scenes through simulations and forensic techniques.

Does studying criminology qualify you to become a member of the National Police, the Local Police, or the Civil Guard?

A bachelor’s degree does not automatically grant you access to these law enforcement agencies. You must meet the requirements and successfully complete the selection process and training required for each recruitment cycle. In our bachelor’s program, you will study criminal law, public safety, policing models, and criminal investigation, as well as other topics related to this field. Always check the requirements for the specific agency and rank that interest you.

What do you need to study to become a private investigator in Spain?

You must meet the legal requirements and have the required training. In our “ Bachelor's Degree ” in Criminology, you will earn a Private Investigator Diploma, which allows you to apply for the necessary license to work in the field of private security, provided you meet all other legal requirements.

What kinds of internships are available in the Criminology program at Bachelor's Degree ?

In our program, you will work on scene analysis, simulations in Gesell chamber facilities, and practical exercises in the criminology lab. You will also learn private investigation and forensic techniques. You will complete your fieldwork at organizations and companies such as the Secretariat of State for Security, the Civil Guard, specialized firms, and Prosegur.

What are the differences between studying criminology and pursuing a double major in law or psychology?

Criminology focuses on crime, crime prevention, victims, and criminal investigation. Combining it with law broadens your legal education; combining it with psychology deepens your understanding of behavior and psychological assessment. A dual degree allows you to broaden your education and gain knowledge in two disciplines, which can open up various career paths.
