What is the average salary for a biomedical scientist in Madrid?

According to market sources, the average salary for a biomedical scientist in Spain is around €38,000–€40,000 per year. The lowest salaries start at around €26,000, reaching around €47,000 for senior profiles.

What is the difference between biomedicine and medicine?

Biomedicine seeks to understand the biological basis of diseases and to research new solutions, while medicine focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of patients. These are related disciplines, but a Bachelor's Degree 's degree in biomedicine does not qualify one to practice as a physician.

What is the difference between biomedicine and biotechnology?

Biomedicine applies biological knowledge to the study of health and disease, while biotechnology uses organisms, cells, and molecules to develop applications in fields such as health, food, and the environment. In this bachelor’s degree program, you will specialize in health-related research.

What is the difference between Biomedicine and Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedicine investigates the biological mechanisms of health and disease, while Biomedical Engineering applies engineering principles to the development of healthcare technologies, such as diagnostic devices or systems. Both disciplines can collaborate on the same project from different perspectives.

What courses are offered in the Biomedicine program?

In our program, you will study Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, and Immunology. You will also study Pathology, Pharmacology, and Experimental Methods to understand diseases and how to research them.

What do students learn in the biomedicine lab practicums?

Starting in your first year, you’ll study in UFV’s more than 700 m² of teaching laboratories. You’ll complete more than 500 hours of lab work and work with cell cultures, microscopy, and histopathology—among other techniques—to develop your biomedical research skills.

Are genetics and genetic engineering covered in the Biomedicine program?

Yes. In our degree program, you will study genetics, molecular genetics, and genetic engineering. You will learn how genetic information is stored and transmitted and how genetic alterations can be linked to various diseases.

What role do bioinformatics and statistics play in biomedicine?

Bioinformatics allows us to analyze biological information using computational tools, and statistics helps us interpret results and assess uncertainty. In our bachelor’s program, you will study biostatistics and bioinformatics to work with biomedical research data.

Can a biomedicine graduate conduct research at a hospital?

Yes. You can participate in hospital-affiliated research teams, studying disease mechanisms or analyzing data and samples. Your duties will depend on the position and the required training; conducting research at a hospital is not the same as practicing medicine.

How does biomedicine contribute to the development of new treatments?

Biomedical research helps us understand how diseases develop and progress, and find new ways to prevent or treat them. Its findings can help develop and evaluate therapies through a process of research and validation involving collaboration across various disciplines.

Why is bioethics studied in the Biomedicine program?

Biomedical research involves decisions that affect people, their samples, and their data. In our bachelor’s program, you will study Ethics and Bioethics to learn the principles that should guide research and to assess its implications from both scientific and human perspectives.
