Research Summary
Our research group works in an interdisciplinary manner, combining chemical, biological and pharmacological approaches in order to study the impact of different chemical compounds using cell lines as experimental models. Through cellular and molecular studies, we analyze the effect of these compounds on cell viability, cytoskeleton integrity and other physiological processes of the cell. In addition, we perform structure-function relationship studies to optimize new candidate compounds, in order to improve their activity and optimize their therapeutic action
Currently, our research is focused on the study of molecular chaperones as potential therapeutic targets. These proteins play a fundamental role in the maintenance of cellular proteostasis, regulating the balance between protein folding and degradation. There are several families of chaperones, many of which are implicated in pathologies such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, overexpression of some chaperones has been associated with increased tumor proliferation and aggressiveness, which makes their pharmacological modulation an area of great interest for the development of new therapeutic strategies.
With this work we aim to develop innovative approaches to chaperone regulation and contribute to the design of new, more effective and selective therapeutic strategies, with potential applications in various diseases.
