Legend is a form of narrative that awakens emotions of admiration; a text that appeals directly to the emotional experience of spaces it confirms as especially perfect, sublime, remarkable, full of meaning. A radically positive and pleasurable emotion that arouses interest and surprise.

The Spanish Hispanic Legend project aims to preserve, conserve and disseminate the most important texts of Spanish literary legend in the 19th century. Three projects were awarded funding:

  1. RESEARCH MEMBERS

Pilar Vega Rodríguez is Professor of Spanish Literature at the Universidad Complutense and coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Creative Writing in this university. Specialist in Spanish 19th century popular and comparative literature. She has published numerous works on Spanish legendary, folklore and literature as well as fantasy literature. She has led three national R&D projects on the revival of popular literary heritage for new audiences, building the online repository descubreleyendas.es, part-hosted by the Cervantes Virtual Library, and also saw the release of the videogame Caminos Legendarios on the medieval traditions of Avila and the figure of Jimena Blázquez.

Belén Mainer Blanco is Professor and Director of the University Degree in Video Game Creation and Narration at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria since 2015. She specializes in Video Game Theory and Communication and Transmedia Narrative in digital media. She is a member of the Arts and Humanities expert panel of Fundación Madri+d and the Canarian Agency for University Quality and Educational Evaluation. She is the founder of the Formative Uses and Narrative Identity of Video Games [Usos formativos e identidad narrativa de los videojuegos] research group and has led and participated in research projects on popular literary heritage and digital narrative. Carmen Cazorla Vivas is Professor of Spanish Language at the Faculty of Philology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her research and teaching career is divided into two main areas: the history of Spanish lexicography and the training of teachers of Spanish as a foreign language. In both areas, she has participated (and participates) in several R&D projects, such as the “Virtual Library of Spanish Philology. Phase IV: implementations and improvements. Meta searches. Bibliographic managers” (PID2020-112795GB-I00, 2021-2024). She was co-coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Spanish as a Second Language at UCM for the 2016-2017 academic year and has also served as coordinator of the Instituto Cervantes DELE examination at its headquarters at the Universidad Complutense from 2009 to 2013.

Professor of Literature and Media at the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Hispanic Literature and Bibliography Department). Her main line of research is the study of the relationship between literature and the media, especially between literature and journalism. She is the author of several articles and publications on 19th, 20th and 21st century writers as well as cultural phenomena like the folletín format. Recent years have seen her participate in several research projects such as “Letters to Teresa: Digitization, Contextualization and Network Analysis of Jorge Guillén’s Letters to his Daughter (1948-1984)”, PID2019-105015RB-I00.

María Jesús Díaz is Professor-Doctor at the Department of Sociology and Communication Sciences of the Universidade da Coruña (UDC). She teaches at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, in subjects like Animation and Video Game Production and Animation Project. For several years she was also responsible for the Multimedia Communication Strategies course, focused on the design of transmedia content. Her areas of research are in the field of structure and communication and culture policies. Her most recent publications address issues of film policy, European cinema and sustainability in the video game industry. David García León holds a PhD in Fine Arts and a University Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He specializes in digital modeling techniques geared towards the creation of narratives using mixed reality tools (virtual reality, augmented reality and extended reality) in the audiovisual, fine arts and video game fields. He holds Master’s Degree in Teaching Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate [Bachillerato], Vocational Training and Languages. He also has more than 15 years of professional experience and spent 4 years as Coordinator of the graphics department of Antena 3 Noticias. He is the founder of the production company El Último Signo Servicios Audiovisuales, focused on the production of audiovisual content, as well as the creation of applications and video games that enhance the use of virtual reality and augmented reality tools. He has been an Epic Games Authorized Unreal Instructor (Gold Badge) since 2022.

WORKING GROUP

Joaquin Mª Aguirre Romero is University Full Professor in the Department of Journalism and New Media in the Faculty of Information Sciences at the Universidad Complutense, where he has developed his academic career. He spent two decades as a Full Professor in the Department of Spanish Philology III until he requested a transfer to the Journalism department. He has taught University Degree subjects such as Contemporary Universal Literature, Literature and Audiovisual Media; and Master’s Degree subjects including Research in Journalism and Creative Writing. He regularly organizes congresses, conferences and seminars, often focused on gender issues, such as the annual “Women of Three Cultures” conferences, the most recent of which was on “Heroines and Villains: Mythological and Legendary Aspects of Female Characters”. He has also focused on the study of the intercultural aspects of communication and the role of stereotypes. He has edited a number of books and magazines and is the creator and editor of “Especulo. Revista de Estudios Literarios”, a pioneering digital publication, one of the first in Europe, winner of multiple awards and boasting a readership in the millions. That publication has marked a path in the consolidation of the transition to digital. Since 2011, he has been the director of the Cineforum of the Faculty of Information Sciences (UCM), hosted weekly during the academic year.

Christelle Screiber Di Ceesare is a Full Professor and researcher at the University of Lorraine (Nancy, France), and Director of the Master’s Degree in Languages and Societies – Tourism Professions. She completed her thesis on the Traditional Legends of José Zorrilla and has explored other areas of research, always focusing on the issues of Culture, Heritage and Memory and the theme of cultural tourism, particularly the strands of literature and legends.

Alejandro Montiel is a developer specializing in 3D modeling, animation and user interface and experience, with titles on consoles and VR and AR applications. He is a Professor on the University Degree in Videogame Development and Narration at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. His research is focused on teaching innovation in video games, learning, accessibility and new three-dimensional representation technologies.

Fernando Núñez Herrera is one of the founders of the production company Esto Va Enserio, with over 30 years of experience in the audiovisual sector. Throughout his career, he has worked as a director, producer, scriptwriter, editor and VFX specialist. He is responsible for the direction and production of the fiction part of the project.

Nereida Rodríguez Fernández is an Assistant Professor and PhD at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Universidade da Coruña. She is a member of the Creative Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (TCIA) research group and of the Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC). She holds a PhD in Information and Communication Technologies and a University Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Universidade da Coruña. She teaches Sound and Animation Project in the University Degree in Digital Creation, Animation and Video Games.

Ángel José Fariña-Lamosa is a Professor at the Universidade da Coruña with an extensive professional background in animation. He holds a University Degree in Fine Arts and a Diploma in Animation Cinema from the Escuela de Cine y del Audiovisual de Madrid. His lines of research focus on the study of the artistic and technical principles of animation, conceptual art and the impact of new technologies in the professional animation and video game industry. He has professional experience as a production assistant, stop-motion animator, 3D animator, rigger and concept artist on projects such as “Las Aventuras de Fluvi”, “Pos eso”, “Capture the flag”, “Tadeo Jones 2”, “Clay Kids”, “Helen’s Little School” and “A trote”. He teaches on the University Degree in Digital Creation, Animation and Video Games and on the Master’s University Degree in Design, Development and Marketing of Video Games at UDC.

Esther López Sanjuan oversees the DDFV Repository and is an expert in open access. She holds a Diploma in Library and Documentation Studies and a University Degree in Communication from the Universidad de Extremadura.
