Francisco de Vitoria University invites the entire university community to discover the man behind its name with the screening of the documentary “El Maestro”, which will take place on October 20 at 12:00 p.m. in the UFV’s Aula Magna.
Who was Francisco de Vitoria, really? This documentary takes us on a journey through his life, his thought, and his legacy to introduce us not only to the thinker, but also to the man and the teacher who became one of the leading figures of the School of Salamanca.
The event is being held to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the School of Salamanca (1526-2026) and offers an opportunity to explore an intellectual tradition closely linked to the identity and mission of Francisco de Vitoria University.
Francisco de Vitoria’s reflections on the dignity of the person, justice, law, and relations among peoples helped shape an understanding of human beings and society that, five centuries later, continues to be the subject of study and reflection.
Learning about him also provides a better understanding of the intellectual tradition that the UFV draws upon and the significance of bearing his name.
To make it easier for people to participate, two sessions have been scheduled throughout the day. The first will take place at 12:00 p.m. and will be open to UFV faculty, administrative staff, and support staff. The second, at 7:00 p.m., is specifically aimed at families, alumni, and those students, faculty members, and members of the UFV community who prefer to attend in the evening. Both sessions will begin with a discussion with the documentary’s producer, followed by the screening, which will last approximately one hour.
