The Sherpa/Romeo project was created to assist researchers in determining which version of their work to make publicly available. This project examines the open access policies of scientific publishers and the copyright agreements between authors and publishers.

The Spanish portal Dulcinea identifies and analyzes the editorial policies of Spanish journals regarding access to their texts and files, the copyrights associated with them, and how these policies may affect their subsequent self-archiving or deposit in institutional or subject-specific repositories focused on intellectual property.

Creative Commons licenses aim to apply intellectual property law more flexibly in order to strike a balance and reach an agreement between authors and users. They allow authors to grant certain rights to their work under specific conditions, while reserving the remaining rights—hence the motto “some rights reserved.”

These licenses are tailored to the specific laws of each country.

There are several types of intellectual property, including industrial designs, trademarks and trade names, patents and utility models, and semiconductor topographies, all of which are governed by applicable laws:

• Patents and Utility Models. Law 11/86 of March 20, on patents and utility models.

• Distinctive Signs: Law 17/2001 of December 7 on Trademarks.

• Industrial Designs: Law No. 20/2003 of July 7 on the Legal Protection of Industrial Designs.

• Semiconductor Topographies: Law No. 11/1988, of May 3, on the legal protection of semiconductor product topographies.
