On September 24, the UFV Library participated in the First Ibero-American Conference on Best Practices in University Libraries and Archives, where it shared its experience with the “Descubre Leyendas” collection, developed in collaboration with the “Legendario Literario Hispánico” research project.
Bibliographic heritage remains alive when, in addition to being preserved, it is made accessible once again to researchers and new audiences. With this goal in mind, Francisco de Vitoria University presented the Descubre Leyendas initiative on September 24 at the First Ibero-American Conference on Best Practices in University Libraries and Archives.
The UFV Library participated in a roundtable discussion focused on sharing projects and experiences related to the preservation and dissemination of documentary heritage. The event was held at the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
Discover Legends: Recovering Texts to Retell Our Heritage
UFV presented the Descubre Leyendas collection as a best practice. The collection is part of its DDFV Institutional Repository and is the result of a collaboration between the Library and the competitive project Legendario Literario Hispánico, in which Dr. Belén Mainer Blanco serves as principal investigator.
The project focuses on 19th-century Spanish literary legends recovered from sources such as newspapers and travel guides of the period. The texts are studied, edited, and annotated to make them easier to consult and to open up new possibilities for research and dissemination. The UFV Library’s collection currently includes more than 617 entries.
This work enables scattered or hard-to-access materials to be brought back into the contemporary cultural discourse. The recovered legends provide insight into how different territories were portrayed and allow for the subsequent exploration of new applications related to research, education, or cultural creation.

Libraries and Archives in the Face of New Ways to Preserve and Disseminate Knowledge
The conference brought together professionals, researchers, and academic institutions from Spain, Portugal, and Latin America to share experiences related to the preservation and digitization of bibliographic and documentary heritage.
The meeting also addressed the role of libraries and archives in the context of artificial intelligence, as well as the opportunities offered by digital repositories to increase the visibility of historical collections.
The UFV’s participation allows us to share an experience in which the library and research work together to preserve knowledge and facilitate its transfer. Discover Legends thus turns heritage preservation into a starting point for further research and for bringing texts from the past to readers and creators of the present.
