Our mission

The mission of the International Doctoral School at Francisco de Vitoria University (EIDUFV) is to ensure the training of a new generation of outstanding researchers who will carry out research and innovation projects that have an impact on society and advance the pursuit of truth, while upholding ethical values and respecting human dignity.

The EIDUFV aims to be a national and international leader in training doctoral students who will advance the sciences in the service of society and the common good. To this end, the EIDUFV is responsible for organise, within its scope of management, the courses and activities specific to the doctoral programs offered by the interdisciplinary programs under its umbrella.

Cross-curricular training activities

Statistics Course

The aim of this course is to introduce doctoral students to the basic and advanced statistical techniques that may be useful to them during their doctoral research. To this end, we use two statistical tools: GraphPad Prism and SPSS.

Methodology: Theoretical explanations will be combined with the analysis of practical case studies using Excel and GraphPad Prism.

Pre-registration: form, due by January 29.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis until all available spots are filled, with priority given to students enrolled in the EIDUFV programme .

Seminar Series on Academic Integrity, Ethics, and AI

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence tools in academic research is profoundly transforming the way we produce, evaluate, and oversee knowledge. This new landscape presents unprecedented challenges regarding scientific integrity, authorship, ethics, and regulatory compliance, which require rigorous and shared reflection by both researchers and those who support and guide this process.

With the aim of providing a forum for professional development and critical analysis, the UFV International Doctoral School is organizing a series of seminars titled “Academic Integrity, Ethics, and AI,” designed for both doctoral students and thesis advisors and supervisors. Over the course of several sessions, renowned experts will address key issues such as the responsible use of generative AI, new forms of misconduct, the current regulatory framework, and the ethical dilemmas affecting both scientific research and doctoral supervision.

We believe it is particularly important for both groups to participate in this training, as part of a shared responsibility aimed at strengthening the quality, transparency, and rigor of doctoral research. We hope you find this series of sessions interesting, and we encourage everyone to register and actively participate in the sessions.

Call for Applications for EIDUFV Mobility Grants

The International programme for EIDUFV students aims to promote the internationalization of doctoral programs by funding stays for EIDUFV doctoral students at prestigious foreign institutions to conduct part of their research. The call for applications is open throughout the academic year and aims to strengthen EIDUFV’s internationalization efforts through the development of doctoral theses with an international focus and theses under international co-supervision.

General information

The theses will be available for public review for one month, starting the day after their publication.

During the public review period, any professor may review the dissertation and submit in writing to the UFV International Doctoral School any comments they deem appropriate within the specified timeframe. For this reason, professors interested in reviewing a doctoral dissertation that is open for public review must follow these steps:

• Send an email to the International Doctoral School eidufv@ufv.es including your first name, last name, ID number, doctoral degree, and the university where you earned the degree*, as well as the details of the thesis you wish to consult.

*If the person requesting the consultation is NOT a member of the UFV, they must submit a document certifying their doctoral degree—such as Bachelor's Degree Doctoral Studies, a supplementary certificate for the doctoral degree signed by the Rector, or a Bachelor's Degree Doctoral Bachelor's Degree certificate—to the following email address: eidufv@ufv.es.

Once a request to view a doctoral dissertation has been submitted, within 48 hours (excepto fines de semana y festivos), the doctoral candidate seeking to view the dissertation will receive an email containing a link that will grant them access to the dissertation.

Library

The UFV Library houses more than 95,000 volumes, 145,000 e-books, DVDs, CDs, video games, subscriptions to more than 225 journals, and access to 26 databases. It offers 476 study stations located in general reading rooms, study rooms, group study rooms, and research rooms, with extended hours during exam periods.

It offers lending services, bibliographic information, user training, room reservations, and research assistance, as well as access to the DDFV Institutional Repository, which contains over 2,500 documents.

The Research Support Service provides guidance on resources, research, intellectual property, citation indices, dissemination of work, publications, the UFV digital repository, and accessing publicly available theses.

It has held AENOR UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 certification since 2006.

Resource Center

It is part of the EuropeDirect network, a system of information points established by the European Commission in all member states. It was granted this status by the European Commission on May 12, 1977, and it was renewed in 2005. It has its own space on the campus to provide information about the EU to researchers, students, and citizens.

Since August 2006, the European Documentation Center has held the Certificate of Company Registration and the right to use the AENOR trademark, which attests to the compliance of our Quality Management System with the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2000 standard. It offers an efficient reference service, bibliographic searches, interlibrary loans, book requests, and more.

Virtual Classroom

The UFV Virtual Classroom, based on the Canvas platform, facilitates communication among members of the EIDUFV educational community and provides access to files and relevant information. Each course has its own Virtual Classroom, where doctoral students can plan and track assignments, participate in forums, and submit work.

In addition, Canvas allows users to expand their knowledge through case studies and discussions, implement various methodologies from the European Higher Education Area, and assess learning in online environments.

Classrooms and spaces

Classrooms: all equipped with audiovisual aids to support teaching (ordenador, proyector, red Wifi).

Language labs: equipped with state-of-the-art technology and specialized language-learning software.

A room for doctoral students in each programme.

Auditorium: equipped with multimedia technology.

2 classrooms: equipped with audiovisual technology.

Computer labs: labs equipped with PCs, a projector, and a screen, all networked and with Wi-Fi access. They include software such as Adobe Suite, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and QuarkXPress.

Other services and resources

Educational software: All programs and software included in the various sections described are intended for teaching, educational purposes, and for use by students who need them.

Office of Digital Transformation: manages the university’s IT resources, such as classrooms, computers, the virtual classroom, the university portal, and academic software. A maintenance team ensures that these spaces and equipment function properly. The Student Affairs Office manages student records and the issuance of degrees, staffed by qualified personnel with administrative experience.

The university ombudsman provides guidance and support to students, addressing questions regarding academic, administrative, financial, and campus-related matters. The ombudsman mediates in conflicts and advises university governing bodies. In addition, directors and advisors provide personalized support to doctoral students, guiding them in selecting supplementary training based on their needs and academic and research profiles.
