Increased life expectancy has been accompanied by a rise in age-related diseases. Understanding the biological processes underlying these phenomena is essential for developing new therapies and improving the population’s quality of life.
Our group studies genes and molecular mechanisms whose alterations cause diseases that share characteristics with natural aging. From a translational perspective, we focus particularly on the differential susceptibility to cancer in people with Down syndrome, as well as diseases related to telomere shortening and dysfunction.
In addition, we are exploring new therapeutic approaches through the study of miRNAs, gene editing, and bioactive compounds such as certain polyphenols with potential applications in pediatric oncology.
