The Francisco de Vitoria University (UFV) was chosen by Cofares to host the 6th edition of the “Outstanding Tutor Awards” and “Erasmus Excellence Awards”, which publicly recognize the important work performed by academic tutors in training the next generation of pharmacists.
The event, which brought together the Faculties of Pharmacy of the Community of Madrid, was attended by senior representatives from the Faculties of Pharmacy at the Complutense University, Alcalá University, San Pablo CEU University, Alfonso X El Sabio University, European University, Francisco de Vitoria University, and Rey Juan Carlos University. The awards ceremony—which rotates annually among the participating academic institutions—took place at Francisco de Vitoria University (UFV).
The awards ceremony was presided over by Eduardo Pastor, president of Cofares, alongside Maite Iglesias Badiola, dean of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences at Francisco de Vitoria University, and Julián Romero Paredes, director of Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy at the same institution. The event also featured a large turnout of members of the academic community from all participating faculties.
During the ceremony, awards in the categories of “Outstanding Tutor” and “Erasmus Excellence” were presented to the winners from the seven schools of pharmacy in the Community of Madrid. The awards were presented by the president of Cofares and the deans of each institution, highlighting the strong collaborative ties that the Cooperative maintains with Madrid’s academic community.
“This event symbolizes the coming together of some of the most important elements of our profession: young talent, the experience of mentors, and a shared commitment among the university, community pharmacies, and cooperative pharmaceutical distribution,” said Eduardo Pastor during his remarks. “This bond provides strength, cohesion, and a future for our model, which serves as a true benchmark for other healthcare systems around the world,” he added.
For her part, Maite Iglesias Badiola, dean of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences at Francisco de Vitoria University, spoke highly of the initiative: “These awards are a way to publicly recognize those who, through their dedication and experience, guide our students in their education. The role of the tutor is essential for imparting not only knowledge, but also values and a sense of professional purpose rooted in a strong social commitment”.
In addition, Julián Romero Paredes, director of Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy at the same university, stated: “The academic excellence we are celebrating today would not be possible without the students’ hard work and our ongoing collaboration with the professional sector. This event strengthens the connection between the university and the field of pharmacy, inspiring new generations to pursue careers dedicated to innovation and service to society”.
The event featured a lecture by Dr. Juan Manuel Domínguez Correa, a professor at Francisco de Vitoria University and Head of Drug Discovery and Biostatistics at Topazium Smart Medicine, on the application of artificial intelligence in drug discovery.
