If you are a citizen of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, all you need is your European Health Insurance Card, although you can also purchase private insurance. Click here to apply for your card.
The European Health Insurance Card is not a substitute for travel insurance. It does not cover private healthcare or expenses incurred in certain circumstances, such as repatriation, certain surgical procedures, return flights to your home country, or the loss or theft of your belongings. Therefore, we recommend that students also purchase supplemental insurance (véase la información sobre el “seguro médico privado”).
Supplementary insurance covers, for example, hospitalization in the event of an accident, including medical evacuation to Spain, or travel and accommodation for family members, etc.
Before visiting doctors or hospitals, check whether they are part of the public health system and accept the European Health Insurance Card (TSE). You can find a list of public hospitals and health centers on the Spanish Ministry of Health’s website
